Nature’s Panoply
by Elouise

Nature’s panoply
Unfathomed spectacle
Universe greater than I
Galaxies of marvel and portent
Flung into space beyond comprehension
By One who knows my name
Each hair on my head
Each scar in my body
Each longing of my heart
My beginning and my end
~~~
Our lovely musician daughter left a lasting spectacle on the ceiling of her old bedroom—now my office. When I feel lost, lonely or distressed I darken the room, lie down on the sofa, and look at the sparkling ceiling. Tiny glowing stars and dots placed there decades ago, still give off their comforting light.
I think of this every time I hear the word ‘panoply.’ The vision our daughter created situates me in my little universe here on earth, directly in sight of the One who made and knows me best of all.
That was lovely. Sometimes, ok many times, it’s easy to get lost in the darkness. It takes little reminders like that to bring us back to the light and goodness. There is a little red handprint on my kitchen door left by my seven-year-old daughter when she was only three. I plan to have it still there in thirty years. My reminder.
Oh, Lilly. You’re welcome. Your comment is so sweet (your daughter’s little handprint)! What a wonderful reminder for you, from your daughter. I love it and wish you many years of being reminded.
well that must be a lovely sight indeed and like a thousand little lights holding you in their embrace, reflections of memories 30 years ago. I always enjoy my visits here to the land of Queen E and Queen L, thanks for the beauty you’ve given me today my friend. “Bows and curtseys”. K ❤
(with a slightly embarrassed yet gracious nod of her head) — You’re so welcome, Kim. The ceiling universe is a great memory and reality all at the same time. No way I want to ‘renovate’ it. It’s perfect just the way it is. 🙂
