Dear Mom, As promised,
by Elouise
Christmas pictures from Longwood. Here they are! We got there about 4:15pm, early enough to miss the rush. Here’s what we saw as we walked toward the conservatory.
We stopped for a quick supper in the café.
By the time we left, it was dusk–my favorite time of day! Magical.
The theme this year was birds.
Here’s the cardinal tree at the end of the stream, just inside the conservatory.
The bird theme included copious use of fluffy feathers.
Here, they’re filling the bird bath.
Birds were everywhere–hatched and unhatched.
We went to the Christmas sing-along in the auditorium.
A graceful swan was nesting over the door!
Then we took a few more looks around before heading for home.
One of my favorite memories from childhood is driving around in the family car to look at Christmas lights. The lights at Longwood are gorgeous, but they don’t hold a candle to the simple, elegant, sometimes gaudy lights we could find right in Savannah, Georgia. Including the house that always had Santa and his reindeer galloping across the roof with Rudolph’s red nose in the lead!
Love and hugs,
Elouise
