Dear Diane | Old Photos

Dear Diane,
Summer 1968. How do you like your lovely tanned legs? And what about those toes? I couldn’t believe I’d forgotten this picture! D and I have been sorting through old slides, converting them to digital photos—all for your viewing pleasure!
Those are my legs on the left, yours on the right—in case there’s any doubt. I noticed that our toes are almost identical.
Here are three more–all taken on the same day at the beach. As you can see from this first full body picture, I’m pregnant and you’re not. I can tell because you’re very gracefully hugging your knees right up to your belly.
In this next one, we’re eating lunch and squinting a bit. Very serious business, eating. Especially with sand blowing around.
Here’s my favorite. The two of us hanging out on the sand with Bill and Joyce Supplee. Our beloved Bible college choir director and his tiny wife Joyce.
D and I drove down to the Jersey Shore for the day. We were living in the Griswold’s house. As I recall, the choir was on tour and had a day off. Near Toms River, I think. Enjoy the photos! We were pretty gorgeous women back then, don’t you think?
Love and hugs,
Elouise

I understand that completely, it must be wonderful to have such old pictures. I have almost none from my childhood and that’s such a pity

It is indeed wonderful–especially at this time of my life. They’ve been sitting in boxes for years, waiting to be rediscovered. It’s heartbreaking when I see news coverage of people after disasters hit, looking for family photos. When they find even a few, I see on their faces how precious the photos are. It’s so important to tell people close to us how much we love them. Every day.

So true… I remember coming back to the place my grandmother’s house once was. It was burnt down. Never will I forget that feeling. It’s something you just can’t describe.

We were pretty gorgeous women? Definitely. Pictures from the past always bring back memories, mostly good. We’ve installed a bunch of ours in our screen savers.

It was pretty nice to randomly stumble upon your blog this evening and see a photo of my dear grandparents together in their youth, and be reminded that so many others loved them as much as I have. Joyce Supplee passed away this afternoon to be with her lord & savior, and beloved husband Bill; would you mind if I send this photo to my family?

Oh, Mike. I would be honored to have you send the photo! I’m so glad you found the post. I also did a piece on your grandfather–actually two. I don’t know whether you found them, as well.
Here’s a short link to Remembering Bill: http://wp.me/p32tHJ-1hF
And here’s the other–a haiku and poem following my 50th reunion and your grandfather’s death: http://wp.me/p32tHJ-1hk
Please feel free to share them as well–with anyone.
I still hear your grandmother’s voice as clearly as a bell in my mind and heart. The clarity of her voice was as stunning as the beauty of her life. I’m so happy she’s at peace, and so sad for all of you left without her.
The generations just keep moving on.
