lop-winged birds

I found this semi-ethereal photo of black-winged stilts yesterday. The lighting and colors are unusual. I was working on George MacDonald’s June 2 sonnet in Diary of an Old Soul. I wouldn’t want them nesting in my hair or in my mind. Nor would I want to meet a pair of their dangling legs on a dark and stormy night. They’re quite beautiful in daylight. Nothing to fear.
