once-jagged layers

once-jagged layers
wear light blue-gray and deep brown
sand-polished by waves
rocks along the edge
bear chalky white droppings from
seabirds passing by
enduring beauty
created by stormy seas
and heaving earthquakes

Thought-provoking…we may wish the original beauty had been preserved (been the “enduring beauty”) but we are called to submit, in love and trust, to the One Who IS Beauty itself and also Lord of storms and earthquakes.

Thanks, Nancy, for this comment. Yes, it’s difficult to put things all together–our desires, the needs of the earth as a whole, our bad habits in relation to the earth, and the reality of things like earthquakes (perhaps indirectly linked to us?). All of which means we’re not in charge, though we have choices that matter.
