The Distance
by Elouise
The Distance between Lonely
and Alone is like the Chasm
between Perpetual Ache
and Irreversible Death
For one, Sweet Balm—
for the other, Being Embalmed
Here—and Not Here
There—and Not There
God encompasses
All of Life and All of Death
within a Universe
of Longing and Leaving
Bold Faith
Hopes for Companions
Counts on Resurrection
Lives with Joy and with Grief

Feeling my mortality and grateful for companions this week–friends here and not here, my children and relatives, my husband and our cat Smudge, you, other readers, and friends I don’t yet know exist.

You’re so welcome! Yes, I did (write it!). It took several days to futz around with words and lines and all that before I felt comfortable letting it see the light of day. When I found the picture, I couldn’t believe how well it fit the words. In fact, I looked at it for a while and imagined myself as that beautiful tree surrounded by the universe. I’m so happy you enjoyed it.
From one beautiful tree to another,

Thank you for this, Elouise. I took a hard blow today that has me feeling my mortality and my gratitudes. Or actually, yesterday, the 19th. This was perfect to open my computer to in my middle of the night wakefulness.
Blessings, Natalie Moon-Wainwright
