My life a ravel
by Elouise
My life a ravel
of tightly bound strands
resists sorting
into heaps of trash
or reusable remnants
for a waif
left numb and cold
by winds of
unrighteous judgment

Response to WordPress Daily Prompt: Unravel
I really like the “reusable remnant for a waif” transition point.

Thank you, Thomas. The phrase flew into my head as I was writing. Glad you enjoyed it!

Would you believe that the very word was new to me? Ravel!
Never ever heard/read it before, I even checked my Oxford D to check it and the etymology.
Seems it’s from the Dutch language.
Now that I’ve unravelled that I’ll get back to doing nothing :D,
How many times I wonder have I used that word – unravel? And yet it never occurred to me that it was the reverse of ravel.
Thank you for this, you’ve made my day XD 🐻

Oh….I almost forgot…. I checked my Oxford too! I was surprised to see that it isn’t used much anymore, given how often we use unravel. And…best of all, that ravel can now also mean unravel. Go figure! 🤔

That must be the American influence. 👿
They’re doing their level best to ruin a perfectly good language 😈
