Kickback
by Elouise
Molasses
oozes
through
my veins
Sluggishness
creeps
from head
to toe
smothering
every desire
to move
Thoughts
of despair
meddle
with my sanity
laugh
at my dreams
mock
and taunt me
Doesn’t everyone
have a down day
now and again?
I’ve had stretch of good days. Very good days, in fact. The Meddler isn’t happy about this. She doesn’t like being ignored.
Well, it isn’t going to happen. Today I’m weary from the daily grind of creating health-inducing smoothies, making sure I have the right vegetables and fruit for smoothies, chopping them up for smoothies, and cleaning up my smoothie blender so it’s ready for the next round.
The Meddler keeps trying to remind me of cat-fur bunnies multiplying by the hour, decisions waiting to be made, and closets screaming to be changed out for hot weather.
I’ve decided to chill out for the rest of this day.

Response to WordPress Daily Prompt: Meddle
I have a load of washing in the line from yesterday, now it’s raining soft drizzle and I’m still in bed at 5 past 9. But at least I don’t have a smoothie blender. When I do get up I’ll fry bacon and eggs.

Hi, Demil! It’s so good hear from you… 🙂 Actually, it wasn’t a lazy day until late in the day. The kickback came from my Meddler trying to mess with my contentment! It happens every now and then. It’s that sinking feeling that things are going too well and I’m due for another reminder that I’m not entitled to being happy or making my own decisions about how I’ll spend my time! So I’m learning to talk back and not give in to the compulsive need to finish that list of things that need to be done. In the end, I did sign off–took a lovely walk, had a relaxing supper and evening, went to bed and slept well! 🙂 And the cat-hair bunnies just increased while I slept! 🙂

Lol! That is good! You named a feeling of yours ‘The Meddler’? Wow.
I guess for me that feeling i need to walk away from very often is that of being overwhelmed by my to-do list or measuring myself by my to-do list. I simply remind myself of a slang we use in Nigeria a lot- ‘I can not now come and die’. Its bad English 🙂 but it means its not worth killing yourself over something…
Its nice to hear from you too!

I like your Nigerian saying! ‘I can not now come and die.’ Definitely makes the point. Thanks, Demil! 🙂

yay you! down days are a plus….don’t be hard on yourself, the bunnies like to multiply like, well, bunnies of course. It’s not like they grow teeth and become monsters that will slice you open 🙂 enjoy and be a lazy daisy 🙂 you have my permission, as if you need it 🙂

Don’t they though! (like to multiply) I’ll just have to learn to love the little monsters! 🙂 And Smudge, from whose beautiful body they spring. I love every permission to be a lazy daisy, and hope you have a lazy daisy moment here and there this week. 🙂
