slow motion
by Elouise
outside my window air hangs heavy
yesterday’s rain now stale
drops in slow motion from the gutter
exposed trees stand breathless
caught in damp morning heat
I hear the rhythmic beat
of tires coming and going
on the road beside our house
August is the saddest month
weary of relentless summer
it languishes—
counting the days

August feels like the hottest month where I’m at.

I feel for you! Right now…. 😦 I’m in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Not quite as bad as Portland (Oregon) is right now, but bad enough for me. Thanks for the comment.

I can feel the weight of each sentence, hanging for thought and the visualization so very clear through. Lovely piece my friend ❤ hey super L ❤

Lucy says what slow motion? I’d never let that happen to QE! 🙂 Seriously, August is such a downer–end of summer vacations, beginning of school terms, families returning from who knows where to the hum drum of ‘real life’! Lawns looking a little stressed. When D and I go out walking these days, hardly anyone is home. They’re all trying to escape–in the Poconos or at the shore! I’m so grateful for ac, which makes almost all things possible. 🙂

What a strange idea; a sad month. I can’t imagine a month being sad, perhaps it’s not the month but the person.

Hi, Brian!
Months can be sad, happy, cold, hot, dull, exciting, reminders of losses, and a whole lot more! It all depends on your point of view–which is, I think, your point. From my point of view, August feels sad for several reasons. As an educator and administrator, it meant bidding a fond farewell to the relative freedom of June and July. As a child, it meant thinking about school and what supplies we needed, and who would be our teachers? Vacation time dwindling! For me, August is also a reminder that life is moving on. I’m not as old or chipper as I used to be. The trees are already looking a bit raggedy, and autumn leaves will be falling all too soon. Which is probably a whole lot more than you wanted to hear about! 🙂

I suppose it’s because I always look for the bright side of everything, Up here in the Southern Hemisphere things are reversed and you’d probably find March a sad month or should that be February when the children go back to school after summer holidays. I love March it’s the start of Autumn the loveliest of seasons, well I love it. Every season has it’s own beauty and something going for it, even Winter. Now I hate being cold, but what I love about Winter is waking in the cold mornings and standing in a piping hot shower for yonks; what a happy time that is, and I am now going to avail myself of such delights 😀
