Moments
by Elouise
Death
Sudden release
Followed by startled grief
Most deeply felt
In waves
Calm
Release of pain
Blood pressure dropping
To a measurable
Sum
Joy
Knocks at my door
Sweeps emptiness aside
For a shining moment
Lingering
Peace
Unannounced
Arrives on the doorstep
Of my heart
Singing

The second last verse of your poem reminded me of an incident the other morning.
A knock on the door.
I was assisting the War Office in the living room, she was having problems with her ‘Laptop’; nothing new there, and I’m not sure whether it was a knock or the door bells ringing; anyway both she and Coco heard it and I was instructed “Go see who’s at the door”; throwing a snappy salute I went to the door and a young lady ( about 40-45) smiled and said goodmorning I’m with the Jehovah’s Witnesses, ( I espied a few more in the street); so not being in the mood for a chat I told her,
Oh I’m sorry we’re all Roman Catholics here and not really interested, she thanked me and toddled off and I thought the War office was going to die laughing .
Well the W.O. is so (sort of – non practicing) it was a half truth!

Great story, Brian! Great good humor for sure! And no worries about the typo–which I just fixed. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could all edit life via a keyboard? π Thanks for the story. Just made my day!

Did I not tell you that my wife was a Roman Catholic and that our 3 children were all brought up in that faith, educated at Catholic schools & colleges?
Guess who helped them with their religious studies?

Yes indeed, I remember that you did. Way back there after we first met. It does my heart good to know you’re well-versed in religious studies (as, no doubt, are your 3 children). π

Yes, they’re all devout atheists.
