Last week D and I hiked in the Longwood Meadow Garden. While we were at a distance from this bird house, we heard a huge racket and saw a couple of larger birds being driven off. I thought the racket was coming from a mating pair, staking out its bird house territory.
When I got home and looked at the photo closely, I discovered the noise came from this fearless Eastern Bluebird male defending a fledgling. All in a day’s work. Which included, of course, singing its heart out! Click to enlarge the photo and get a good look at the fledgling–especially its big left eye having a look-see.

Thanks for the poem and the picture. I think birds are beautiful, and was a bird watcher for years. I tried to entice a pair of bluebirds to use a birdhouse in our back yard, but they prefer one in a neighbor’s yard. They being territorial, I was not likely to succeed. Tears.

That’s so sad! Sad for you and the bluebirds, in my opinion. I’m glad you enjoyed the poem and photo. I loved seeing that little fledgling with its protector nearby.

Beautiful colors. Birds add such brightness and song to life. Especially cold winter tuxedo bow chickadees😊

Don’t they, though? The little dressed up chickadees seem super happy and chirpy all the time. So glad you enjoyed the photo and the colors.
