Let’s go see the meadow! | Photos

~~~My favorite! A Longwood Meadow bird house hat in late autumn finery.
Is Longwood Gardens addictive? Maybe. No matter. It’s a healthy addiction! Especially on a chilly, breezy, bright sunny day that just happened to be my birthday. Here’s a tiny peek at what we saw last Friday around the small lake and in the meadow.
The area around the lake has large bald cypress trees. They drop soft orange needles
the gardeners collect and use as ground cover for flower beds.
Don’t miss the cypress knees in the two lake photos.
Now we’re on our way to the meadow,
past cheery November colors and a mystery tree in the Italian Water Garden.
Think holiday lights blanketing Longwood Gardens in December.
We hiked through half the meadow–that’s about a 30 to 40 minute hike uphill, across to the west (or the east!) and down again, with multiple other paths through the center. It’s always a great workout, and the overviews are spectacular. Here’s one you can see only in late fall, after most of the green has faded from the meadow, but still shines bright in the formal woods next to the base of the meadow.
Finally, three photos I love because
they capture the magic of late autumn life and beauty without a lot of showy color.
Wishing you a gratifying Thanksgiving holiday if you live in the USA.
If not, have a wonderful week anyway!
If possible, tell someone you love ‘Thank you,’
and why you’re grateful for his or her presence in your life.
Thanks for being my blogging friends!
Without you I wouldn’t be the person I am today
or this adult woman who still feels like a kid at heart.
Thanks for the pictures, Elouise. When I was younger I loved to walk and hike, I once hiked 23 miles in one day, on the C&O canal towpath. At Philmont Scout Ranch, I hiked 5 to 15 miles each day with the scouts in my crew. The views were fantastic. But no more. I have to be content with a half mile walk on the bike path behind our house.
Leta and I wish your family a wonderful Thanksgiving. Sheryl is with us, and we will spend the holiday with our youngest son in Virginia.
You’re welcome! Your Thanksgiving plans sound excellent. I checked out the Philmont Scout Ranch (on the internet). What a gorgeous area for hiking. Thanks for the photo you emailed me. It has the New Mexico look–assuming this is in New Mexico. What years would this have been? 1930s? 1940s? Best to Leta and Sheryl!
