purple carpets

purple carpet waves
soft lavender on cold ground
golden eyes twinkle

I’m just back from a morning walk through my neighborhood. Birdsong filling the air, lazy sounds on near-deserted streets, sun bright, cool air breezy, and several lovely carpets of crocus.
My eyes filled with tears, and I recalled one of my favorite college choir choral pieces. It seems fitting for this time of year and this time in world history. The words come from Isaiah’s vision of arid ground blossoming and flourishing in every possible way. Spoken not when things were going well, but when they were going downhill at breakneck speed.
I’m heartened by these words. Encouraged not to give up, but to keep my eyes and my heart focused on what matters most. And, like Isaiah, willing and able to stand before God and speak truth to corrupt power. Isaiah’s vision comes as a stark contrast to the corruption he spoke against and lived with day and night. It’s a promise to each of us who’s willing to listen, live through and with the hard times, do what we can and must, and keep our eyes on God’s larger picture. God has not forgotten us or rainbows.
Isaiah 35:1 (New International Version)
The desert and the parched land will be glad;
the wilderness will rejoice and blossom.
Like the crocus, 2 it will burst into bloom;
it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy….
Praying you’ll have an encouraging, revitalizing Sabbath rest.

I am loving the “croci” carpets around here, Elouise! On Thursday, some of the seniors and I went for lunch at Wyndham House as there was one solitary crocus, with its petals wide open to the sun. I was mesmerized! I thought that they were group flowers, not singletons! I got a picture, and smile every time I look at it! Thank you for sharing – again!

So am I! Lavender is magical. The color always reminds me of the fragrance. Thanks, Sean! 🙂

I think it has a calming effect and helps us to bring our minds into sync with our total being. We focus on either one, maybe even two, parts of who God created us to be and we end up being distressed and our whole being suffers because of the maltreatment of the neglected parts.

Thanks for this thought-provoking comment. Yes, lavender is definitely a calming herb. I haven’t thought about it this way before. Thanks, Sean! 🙂

You’re so welcome Kim! 🙂 How sad not to see them popping their little faces up. I guess one sign of spring in Florida might be winter visitors heading north? I think we’re in for a hot spring and summer. Not much snow hanging around this year. A thunderstorm is rolling in right now.

That looks very pretty, and something we don’t get to see in Australia,
I do think the wild flowers in Western Australia when bursting forth in all their glory puts everything else in the shadows, they are magnificent to behold.
It is also a criminal offence to pick them, can land you in the clink.

I’ve never had the privilege of seeing desert land in full bloom. Especially just following a downpour. One more reason to visit Australia, taking care not to land in the clink! 🌵🌼🌸🌻🌴🌿😎

Not only in the desert; the wild flowers are everywhere in the West; not so much in the desert though. I was once the King of a small mining town in the desert in far north of WA. Dis a few posts on the subject.
If you’re inclined to have a look enter the words Shay Gap in the search and be prepared for the ramblings of an egotistical 🐻 XD
