Slippery words

Slippery words fly through hot air
Smiles and flourishes promise happy days ahead –
But at what cost and for whom?
Another committee ‘collaborates’ behind closed doors –
Working toward freedom and justice for all?
Or for the chosen few. . . .
What would it take to halt double-speak
about things that touch all our lives?
Are we willing to pay that price?
Imagine our nation shaped by listening
rather than speaking loudest or longest –
Do we have the guts to go there?

Thanks, Fran. We’re living in troubled times that have been simmering below the surface for decades if not centuries. Thanks for the affirmation! 🙂

A nation usually goes where its leader takes it.

I can’t disagree with that. I do, however, believe we are no longer “a” nation, but a conglomerate of competing interests. It didn’t start now; it began when the first settlers arrived on these shores. Old patterns are now set in what seem to be disparate sub-nations whose needs and interests are widely (sometimes wildly) different.
At the same time, a truthful, focused, wise leader with guts, discipline and courage can make a difference. Always at a cost that must be shared, not meted out as payback or payoff. Do we have the guts? Better, do I have the guts? Thanks for your thought-provoking comment!
