shadows of women
I may once have been recede
within a forest
fragrant firs bend branches low
heavy with pregnant brown cones
I had a waking half-dream this morning–the first three lines of the tanka above. How to end it? I don’t want more of the woman I’ve already been–though I don’t want to lose her entirely. Rather, I want to be born yet again into a life that suits me today.
This half-dream seemed to say I’m at least half-way there. Besides, this is Labor Day weekend. A most propitious time for dreaming about possibilities.
Labor Day celebrates the everyday women, men and young people who labor to get the job done. Many labor under duress in less than healthy, safe, life-giving conditions. A good time to dream about possibilities.

Response to WordPress Daily Prompt:Β Continue
Hi, I really enjoyed reading this post. I know this may not be something someone asks quite often, but I just started a blog and honestly I don’t know much. I was wondering if maybe you had a few tips or tricks to get people to read my posts? -Vanna

Hi, Vanna/ThoughtsToWords94!
Thanks for the visit, your kind comment, and your question. I took a look at your blog, and encourage you to keep posting! I was terrified at the beginning, not sure anyone would be interested in reading my posts. Knowing why you want to be a blogger is super important, as is the major focus of your posts and making sure your writing is clear and to the point. Beyond that, posting on a regular schedule, visiting blogs recommended to you by WordPress, leaving comments and likes, sending out invitations to your friends to come and take a look–all of that helps. I also found WordPress resources helpful on all kinds of things, especially their Daily Prompts for writing.
Have no fear! There are many young mothers out there coping with the same kinds of things you face every day. Each with a different story and different experiences in life. From my perspective, the blogosphere has been very welcoming and encouraging.
Wishing you well! π And feel free to come back anytime…of course!

Possibilities are always endless, it’s how we look at it and I love this poem and you ended it nicely too. I love those half wake dreams….best fodder for writing of all time. Just wish they could hook up a machine and collect them all before we forget with the bright light as we pour the morning Joe π

Yes, scores of seeds in those heavy cones! Thanks, Kim. I’ve started keeping paper and pencil close by because those lovely fragments just seem to take flight and vanish. When you invent your magic machine, let me know! π

and if you invent it first, you must let me in on the blueprints so I may make one too…perhaps a time machine so that we could go back and meet Emily and Mary….now that would be fun β€
