morning’s first sunlight
by Elouise
A particular slant
of morning’s first sunlight
bathes the towering oak
setting fall leaves on fire
beneath a deep blue sky
Most mornings I look out our bedroom window to see what’s going on in the sky. The largest tree on our backyard horizon is an old, magnificent oak. The leaves are lovely; they don’t, however, produce the best fall foliage unless the light is just right.
For the past few weeks, early morning sun has transformed brownish oak leaves into a stunning display that lasts for a few minutes and is gone. This morning the sky cooperated with a crystal-clear, almost cobalt blue background. A great beginning to a special day, which happens to be my 74th birthday!

Daily Prompt: Particular
Happy birthday, dear Elouise. How grateful I am for the gift of you. Joy be with you, every day of this year, even if you have to dig for it some days, like for a hidden treasure. Love you and D.

Happy Birthday! I so miss fall colors of the east. Blessings to you in this season of thanks and know that I am thankful for the uncomfortable, but always profitable, years in your class.

Thank you, David! During the last couple of months I’ve prayed and thought often of you, your family and your neighbors there in wildfire country. I trust all is going as well as possible despite the ravages of firestorms, dislocation and upheaval. It was a joy to have you and Natalie in the classroom. Your combined courage is inspiring! 🙂

I want to wish you happy birthday, too, Elouise. We are doing fine since the fires. Our trauma was minimal but we know many who lost everything. We are doing what we can to be present and helpful for them. There is also so much to be grateful for, during this Thanksgiving week! ~Natalie
