For women of a certain age
by Elouise
Restless mind and body
search for direction –
Ways to speak into the void
of life counting down –
One day and night at a time
Relentless
Heaviness hangs on my eyelids
I want to sleep – or do I ?
Maybe I don’t want to be
Awake
It’s easier that way –
And who would know the difference
between sweet sleep and
fear-driven avoidance?
For what was this body/soul created?
Maybe I missed something
In the directions for women
of a certain age and temperament
I’m more than a statistic.
Writing when Awake is dangerous.

Yes you are more than a statistic. You are a child of God and loved by God.

Thank you, Dave. It takes some of us a long time to own this and speak or write truth about our lives. Not because of God, but because of our fear of being ‘out of order.’ 🙂

Elouise, I don’t know you, but I imagine you are a strong and dedicated woman… relentless. I admire your courage.

Thank you, Jane! Some might call me relentless….hopefully for all the right reasons 🙂

Lovely! Suitably bitter sweet, as befits a woman of a certain age…. Thanks! xxx

You’re most welcome, Fran. I love your phrase–‘as befits a woman of a certain age.’ Isn’t it wonderful to be in that category–or at least creeping up on it?! 🙂

Yes, absolutely! Freedom beckons when age says, “Why need I care, as much as I did before…?”

As a “woman of a certain age” also I know these feelings well. Most of the time my spirit carries me through with serenity (as I know yours does too), but there are certainly times when the dilemma you express takes over. Knowing we are in good company in this difficult time of passage is a blessing. Thank you for putting it into words.

You’re welcome, Martha. Thank you for your personal comments. The ups and downs are often difficult. Like you, I find the company of other women making this passage can be both comforting and nourishing. We aren’t in this alone, though sometimes we feel we are. And being Awake is a great gift, no matter how dangerous or distressing.
