Snooteville, Tennessee 1981
by Elouise
So make that Nashville, Tennessee, 1981. I’m not sure what inspired us to pose in this magnificent manner. That’s daughter Sherry on the left, son Scott in the middle, and I wish I didn’t know who that woman is on the right! By this time, I’d finished my course work at Vanderbilt, and was probably getting ready for comprehensive exams.
In any case, this photo cracks me up every time I see it!
The lovely framed temple rubbing on the wall was a gift from D’s mother. She brought it back from a tour of duty (as military librarian) during the VietNam War. The empty shell on the fireplace shelf was one of our great finds while visiting beaches on the East Coast.
I wonder what look D had on his face when he snapped this one! I don’t think it was planned. We were probably worn out from having to pose with smiles on our faces….or something like that! In any case, I love this photo.
Hoping this day brings moments of happiness in your life, no matter how they happen to find you!

Hello, Dr. Edna! Would you believe your comment showed up in my Spam?! I rescued it. How are you doing these days?

Oh, Elouise! My family could never have pulled this off – we were afflicted with incipient giggles! Just say “serious” or snooty” or “grim” and we were locked in battle with our mouths! We actually tried it once on Christmas Day and the resulting photo was of a family (including a 4 year old) dissolving into various puddles of merriment – we truly cracked ourselves up! Thank you for this delightful moment of fun in a busy day!

I love your comment, Debbie! If you look closely, you’ll see that Scott is having a teeny tiny struggle with a wannabe grin! Sherry (always the consummate actress) had no problem at all. As for me, I was weary with well-doing (the well-doing of tolerating all these not-quite-right attempts at a photo)! I think cracking up is absolutely wonderful. 🙂

HA! What a great photo…so fun and it does bring on the smiles and laughter! 😀 ❤️
With our kids we always did the “for grandma” photos…posed, everyone smiling sweetly…and then we’d do the funfunny photos…make any face you want, etc.! The kids LOVED that! And now looking back over the photos (many years) later, we all laugh again and again! 😀
(((HUGS))) 🙂

I love your comment! What a great collection you must have. Yes, it’s very difficult to pull off a serious photo for relatives. Much better to just go crazy (as a reward for doing the ‘grandma’ poses)! 🙂

I love this photo, and what a lot of fun for you all. I am sure this will be treasured and also the side stories of what is in the background. Perhaps you would consider transferring it to black and white so it last for generations to come?

Thanks, Gwen! I can’t say I’ve ever thought about that. It makes tons of sense. I’ll pass this on to David, who is the photo/slide guru in the family.
