What’s happening

Smudge is turning into a movie star…just look at those searing eyes and beautiful coat!

David celebrated his 80th birthday last month–with family members, some we hadn’t seen since before Covid. The gorgeous flowers were from our daughter and her husband.
These days I’m learning (slowly) to accept life without many outings or visits with friends. On the whole my health is good, though my stamina isn’t what it used to be. Still, between Smudge, David, and the birds in our back yard, there’s more than enough to make each day special. Though some days don’t feel as special as I might like.
How are you doing? The news these days is enough to send anyone packing, looking for another world. I pray you’re finding reasons to live, reasons to love, reasons to hope, and ways to help carry–even for a moment–the heavy burden of our growing anguish.
Early this morning a small Carolina Wren was standing on the roof just outside our bedroom window, singing his heart out. It didn’t matter what the weather was like, or what’s going on in today’s so-called news. Here’s to faith sufficient for each day and each night, and ways to connect with each other in these uncertain times.

If I had a kitty as cute as Smudge I wouldn’t be in a hurry to go off gallivanting. I’d just stay home, curl up with him and good book, and occasionally look out the window to see what the birds were up to.

What a life that would be! He’s great lap kitty. Loves to snuggle up, close his eyes, and sleep the sleep of the righteous! π And yes, he also loves to sit on his picture window seat to watch the birdies and chart out how he would take them down in a heartbeat!
We’re in the middle of fluctuating weather–super hot the last three days, and today I’m shivering, with colder weather promised for tomorrow. Actually, it all makes sick sense, doesn’t it? You never know what will happen next–we seem to have lost our bearings as a nation, even though there are many good citizens among us.
I hope you have a great day, no matter what happens next!

I still have trouble reconciling the crazy stuff I see and hear from the States with all the wonderful people we met on our drive up Pacific 101.
And my girlfriend in Texas is making “I want to get married again noises”. That means I’ll have to take an internal flight from Los Angeles or wherever, and Facebook pushes me very weird stories about poor behaviour on them.
And the weather? I’ve asked her to choose a month that doesn’t offer hurricanes, snowstorms or heatwaves. Not sure that leaves many options.

Definitely a “Reluctant” issue! Can’t say I blame you. Phew…. You’re correct about not many ‘safe’ options over here. π¦

We have a menagerie of birds flocking to our feeders and to three pans of water in which they LOVE to bathe and throw birdie-fountains into the air! Even though we’re having strange weather over here, we seem to have missed the worst of it for now. The trees are finally starting to look like real trees (with leaves!), and the birds are desperate to pair off and have babies! Thanks for your hugs, prayers, and love. π

Dear Carolyn,
Thank you many times over! I’m slowly figuring out what my role in life must be now that I’m on the brink of 80 years old! It’s easy to get caught up in things that I can’t change. Especially when I want to change them! Instead, I’m clear about this: I’m a writer/blogger. If I don’t get back to this part of my life I’ll be miserable. Things will still happen that aren’t fun, but knowing I have this outlet (and that ignoring it just pulls me the wrong way) has helped me get focused again. I’m so grateful for your prayers…and your friendship via WordPress. Who would ever have imagined it? π Hugs from me and from Smudge! π
