lost treasure
by Elouise
lost treasure
baked in rubbish heap—
gold bounty
* * *
despite past pain
there’s no going back
to settle scores of
faulty judgments cast my way
with clear intent to harm
they lie deep down
within a heap of
whispered tales and
bitter taunts thrown out
discarded left to die
if I were God
a thousand deaths seem
not enough for gossip
lies or hateful words that
mutilate and kill
yet rooted in
this groundless stench
lush vines bear fruit in season
the unexpected gift of life
grown strong from dying seeds of wrath
