you pressed me today

by Elouise

you pressed me today—
barely balanced defenses
crumble at my feet
* * * * *
Dear God,
I don’t like this one little bit.
Tossing and turning never agreed with me.
So why now?

My health equation is perfect:
Good food + good exercise + good bedtime =
good sleep.  Right?

So what’s wrong now?
I can hardly stay awake today
What are You up to?

This is no way to live.
Or die for that matter—
Not yet anyway

My house isn’t in order.
Why not?  It’s all that stuff I’m hanging onto.
Why?  I’m not sure anymore.

A comforting reminder?  E.g.,
Take the clothes in the closets–
Not literally!  Just hang on a bit—

Take the clothes in the closets.
I love the colors and the textures.
No, of course I never wear them!

You know they don’t fit!
Even though there’s less of me now,
There’s more of them.  (Joke! Get it?)

So what does Me want?
Did I just hear you right?
(long silence on both ends)

I don’t know what Me wants.
It’s hard to imagine with all  these
precious reminders hanging around.

(more silence on both ends)
OK.  I know what to do next.
Thanks for this little chat.

Your Beloved Daughter-Child,
Elouise
