Meadow Garden at Longwood Gardens, PA

Hi Elouise,
A farmhouse museum sounds like an interesting place. I imagine that the hike would be a wonderful way to explore the local plants too!

The farmhouse was only recently restored and made into a museum. They did the best they could to make use of old utensils and other artifacts. Overall it felt more like a museum than a farmhouse. However, the hikes are fabulous–something different to see and experience every season. I’m grateful the land is being preserved.

I loved seeing the birds of the season they note in the exhibit. s inside the farm house. Also the animals they’ve spotted (do I recall mink?). The walk is wonderful (for those able to navigate it) & the farm house fun to aim towards. I do wonder if I would have bothered to navigate all of the paths without a destination in sight. What a treasure the meadow has turned out to be.

Yes, mink! I also enjoy the architecturally simple, elegant information stations at several points in the meadow. I agree, the meadow walk isn’t for the faint of heart. Especially in hot weather.
Your comment about mink reminds me that when I was a child, living on the river, my father once caught a mink that had wandered into our yard! We had any number of wire cages for pets and other lost creatures, so in the morning we all got a good look before he released it. Very exciting stuff!
