two poems of celebration
by Elouise
#1
songs of praise
transposed into
slow drumming
mass movements
in minor key
become laments
rolling waves of
living voices
celebrate
the newly dead
rising, falling
requiem of hope
fueled by sorrow
______
#2
heart and body
broken for
each broken child
of this world
gathered now
around tables
set with rations
crumbs of bread
drops of wine
small foretaste
of feasts to come
______
Written on the way home from Texas following a family member’s memorial service on Saturday, and Sunday morning worship with celebration of holy communion at his church.

Dear Elouise ,
Missed you but I knew why. Was praying for you all. The poem is beautiful. I may ask for permission to read it at my Mom’s funeral some day. Mom turned 90 on 4/19. She’s not just old but frail, frustrated from the stroke, falls often…. She just wants to go and see Jesus.
Thanks again.

Hi, Lorraine. You’re so welcome. Thanks for your kind words about the poem, and for praying. My heart goes out to your Mom. When the time comes, and if it seems appropriate, yes, read the poem. I’d be honored to be present in that way.
