small brown rabbit

small brown rabbit waits
alert before white headstone
Aslan on the move

Late summer
I’m on a morning walk
Passing by the cemetery
Yet another fresh grave
Ground heaped up
No headstone
Nothing smoothed over
Just bare death
and a small brown rabbit frozen in stone
Time passes
Reluctantly the heaped-up ground recedes
to an orderly civilized level, a fading scar
A white headstone appears
Small brown rabbit watches, waits
Alert before the headstone
Without warning
A gentle breeze rustles the air
Aslan is on the move. . . .
