Dear Readers, I love writing!
by Elouise
I also love hearing from you. Is it time to get some of my posts published? Perhaps as an e-book? I’m considering it. It would mean a change or two for me, including something I said I’d never do.
Confession: I have steadfastly refused to have a personal Facebook page. I’m inclined to get lost in space, especially when it’s filled with interesting pictures, videos, and newsy updates from here and there. In addition, there are all those nasty privacy issues I don’t want to deal with.
Nonetheless, I want to grow my audience as part of a plan to publish some of my writing.
In light of this, I would appreciate your comments about Facebook author pages. That’s what I’m thinking about setting up–not a personal Facebook page. For starters, here are some questions. If you have other things to say about this, say on!
~If you follow Facebook author pages, why do you follow them? (or what do you like about them?)
~If you don’t follow Facebook author pages, why not?
~If you’re a writer and have a Facebook page, what do you like about it? (or what would you say about setting one up?)
Thanks so much for reading and commenting!

Well, I didn’t know there was such a thing as Facebook Author Pages. So I guess that would be my reason for not following it. But I have an Anajali facebook page and have a good following on that. An author pages would be interesting.

Anne, Thanks for your comment. I’m glad to have your input. As for author pages on Facebook, you might try searching for one of your favorite authors and see what you can find.

As part of a local writing group, I follow several local author’s Facebook pages. I also follow writers I love, like Anne Lamott, Barbara Brown Taylor, and others. As someone who has studied social media some, I know you have to have a personal account in order to create a page. You also have to be consistent (which you are with your blog, so that’s not an issue!), and Facebook isn’t making it any easier to stand out from the crowd. But, you already have a following here, so it wouldn’t be hard build something from those followers. If I can help you with this, let me know, and I’ll share what I can. (Though, maybe after Christmas would be better!) Good luck!

Natalie, Thanks for your comments. I agree that FB won’t make it easier–which gives me pause. It’s not a done deal yet. In any case, no requests for help from you until after Christmas. Promise!

I’ve never seen a Facebook author page but it is probably like my Jews For Jesus Tulsa page. I also have a personal page but mainly what is posted to it are my blog post. I think you should do both for added exposure. Just my opinion. Sounds good, my friend.

I, too, have been hesitant about setting up any kind of FB page both because of the time and the privacy issues, though if I ever get a book publishing deal I know I’ll have to bite the bullet. I’ll be curious to see how this develops for you.

Nancy, I empathize! Biting the bullet is less daunting now than it would have been earlier in my life. I also figure I’m more public now than ever, so… who knows where it will end? Stay tuned, but don’t hold your breath! Thanks for your input.

It’s been a while since I’ve been on WordPress since I’ve been out of the country, but I had to come to your page and see what you’ve been writing!
I follow a couple of author pages because I like to keep up with any new projects they might have coming. But sometimes they post random things that I’m not really interested in (e.g., “the Packers are better than the Patriots”). Those actually make me want to unfollow them since that’s not really why I “liked” their page in the first place. But if you’re looking to expand your readerbase, I think Facebook would be a great place to start since it’s so easy to share things to friends on there!
Hope you’re well!

I can’t recall what I read — exactly — but Facebook is changing it’s policies or user agreement. If I understood correctly, any content posted on Facebook, can be used elsewhere without you knowing about it. I would Google the Facebook policies for 2015.
