Life flew south last winter
by Elouise
Life flew south last winter
Though I’m looking for its return
In vain I imagine it on
A southern beach somewhere
Soaking in rays of warmth
For this spring-starved season
Plus stories of birds and beasts
To lighten my waning energy
Sleeping day and night
Waking from a dream I search for
Resurrection of bones and sinews
With sight and sound and the mind
I used to have but find instead a
Stranger has taken up my space
Demanding attention as the radio
Drones on about life out there
Though I no longer visit
Or entertain at home

You mentioned recently your desire to have your own voice speak out. I think these last two poems are as strong an expression of that voice that I’ve read. They are beautiful – much like a fine wine that has aged well over many years. Keep writing them!

What are those things on the beach? They look odd and out of place, would never do at Manly.

Good question! I think they’re ‘bath houses’ like but unlike similar structures on beaches I’ve seen elsewhere–including Jamaica! A little shade and/or privacy for changing clothes, space to lock up some belongings, or park your beach gear. I’m guessing this is a private beach on the Baltic. Hence the very neat and tidy little ‘houses.’ I’ve also seen shots of the same thing on beaches in Great Britain. When I lived in Savannah, we often drove out to Tybee Island Beach. White sand, no structures like these. Just clear, clean sand interrupted by the occasional jetty.

I have tried to send you sunshine but apparently there is a cloud sucking it all away. Sigh….I hope you’re doing well, playing catchup finally and sending warm healing Spring fling thoughts your way ❤
