empty bird feeder, a cat and Mr. T
by Elouise
the bird feeder swings
empty in morning sunshine
a cat sleeps soundly
~~~
What will this auspicious day tell us
about ourselves
or will it all be about Mr. Trump
whose dis-fortune has waxed eloquent
in decades and years past
Some may wish to disappear
Just withhold needed food
And we will all surely starve
From our homemade C-19 stew
Without a roadmap or remedy in sight
There’s nothing so naked
As hanging out in the public eye
Bereft of sustenance
Without a plan
And without a leader
The saddest part is that no matter who wins this election, Mr. Trump still has over two months in office.
Thank you for your visits during this year of Covid-19 and Black Lives Matter. I can’t tell you how life-giving it has been to write and post my thoughts. Today I’m feeling worn out. Not yet ready for whatever comes next.
For now, I’m going to cook, walk, enjoy the sunshine, listen to music, play with Smudge, and maybe even play the piano.
My sentiments as well. How is Smudge?
Thanks, Marilyn.
Smudge seems to be back to normal (except for his heart murmur). He’s now on 1/4 of a baby aspirin every other day to take care of any blood clots that might form. We’ve got an appointment set up for him in late December, should we need it. In the meantime, he’s back to his loving, feisty self. And I’m breathing a lot better because of it!
I fear we’re in for a loud (if not long) string of Trump’s unfounded, poisonous and untrue declarations, no matter how things turn out when the mailed-in ballots are all counted. That includes D and my ballots.
I’m worn out, too. 😦
Thanks for your kind comment, Carolyn! This marathon election (plus Covid et al) is taking a toll for sure. I’m happy to report Smudge is holding his own, and obediently taking his 1/4 of a baby aspirin every other day! I’ll come over later today and take a look at your post. Thanks for the heads up. I’ve been keeping my head down a bit these last few days. Hugs and prayers for all of us. 🙂
I’m so glad to hear Smudge is better. I’ve prayed for him. (Yes, I pray for pets.) 🙂
Dearest, we are all watching and waiting, as the cult of Trump plays out against grown up politicians. It comes home to me, lately, that grown up – real – politicians play nice enough, and honour the rules of engagement for the greater good. Real politicians talk, and negotiate and get along. Cult leaders, otoh, are only interested in themselves. We all hope.
Oh, Fran, It’s so good to hear from you! We’re all trying to keep going with ‘normal’ life while this sideshow plays out. This election is laying bare the divisions that we’ve not been willing or able to address head-on. I love your comparison between “Real politicians” and “Cult leaders.” And yes, whether the negotiating will happen, given all the uproar, remains to be seen.
I think this won’t be over for quite a while–even though the presidential race will be over and officially called in favor of the winner. In the meantime, I’m trying to stay calm, focused, prayerful and hopeful. I think America is finally waking up to what we’ve been all along–a deeply divided nation reluctant to look in the mirror of truth.
