Life with Lucy
by Elouise
Seven years ago, in early 2016, two events changed my life. First, I got a pacemaker to help with my heart issues. It went well. I was relieved and slightly ecstatic to have this new gadget that has helped keep me alive for the last seven years.
As some of you already know, Lucy (as in “I love Lucy“) is the name I gave my new pacemaker. She’s been with me through all kinds of ups and downs. That includes breaking my jaw in 2016, just two weeks after getting my pacemaker. There aren’t words to describe how devasted I felt. Especially because I’d just met Lucy and was on my way to a much-needed hair cut!
Suddenly I was living with wired jaws for about five weeks, followed by rehab exercises and drastic food changes. I’m not a party animal. I am, however, a people person. I know beyond a doubt that Lucy, along with D, Smudge, music, family members and friends got me through days and nights of despair and pain.
Two days from now I’m scheduled to get a replacement battery for Lucy. I’m told it’s nothing compared to getting the pacemaker. We shall see.
Do I still love Lucy? You bet I do! Right now I’m looking at a lovely Valentine’s Day card from a member of my church. The front of the card says “Love is patient and is kind.”Β Sometimes I wish I could blame my body for the pain it causes me. Thankfully, I’m learning to be patient and kind toward my various bodily aches and restrictions.
That’s my news for today! We’re in a mess here in the USA. All the more reason to be patient and kind with ourselves and with neighbors and strangers near and far. Right now.
Thanks for stopping by!

My dear Kim,
Your lovely comment ended up in spam! I rescued it!
I’m home, dealing with the aftermath. Glad to have it done, and grateful to be alive!

I love your Lucy, too! I’m so so SO glad she has served you well all these years! β€οΈ π
I hope replacing her battery is a breeze and she continues to be there for you! π
When I was a little girl, the I Love Lucy repeats of the “old” TV show were my favorite shows to watch. π
In the past few years, with all the smart-phones up in people’s faces I think of something Lucy said… βWell, whatever happened to that game we used to play before television was invented? It was called βconversation.’β – Lucy Ricardo π π

I just talked with one of the nurses. Tomorrow will be tough (no eating or drinking gulps of water after midnight!). However, I was able to get an early slot on the list–thanks to my non-diabetic hypoglycemia! As for Lucy, yes, I still laugh until I cry sometimes when I watch her zany ways. So unafraid to be unconventional! I love the quote you add at the end. So so true! Hugs right back to you. π

Thank you, Carolyn. Overall, I’m thrilled to have my new Lucy pacemaker. There were some glitches along the way (not because of me), but I think all went well in spite of it. Thanks for hoping and praying! π

Praying all goes well with the procedure. My oldest daughter has had one for nearly 20 years and has treasured the time given her since then. Still serves as pediatric certified nurse practioner in Bloomsburg PA. BLESSINGS TO YOU AND YOURS ALL OF THEM.

Thank you, Dave! Wow. 20 years is a long time. I think pacemakers are one of the top inventions of our times! Thanks for your prayers and encouragement. I’ll be thrilled when it’s over (by late tomorrow morning).

Aw shucks, Janet. Thanks for your most kind words. I hope your life is rocking along, too, these days. I’ve almost decided that the biggest challenge of life is turning ‘bad’ things into truly good things. Helping us spread our wings a bit wider and fly a bit higher. π

Thank the Lord for pacemakers. It added 30+ years to my Dad’s life and several to mine. You will get an upgraded pacemaker as they replace the whole unit I am told. Dad had his replaced twice.

Wow! I was stunned to see this message from you, Chet! We miss you and yours. Thanks for your testimony to the wonders of pacemakers. Yes, they will replace the whole unit. What they don’t have to do (thank goodness) is put in all the ‘wiring’ that goes with it. I’m told it should take only half an hour (once I get through all the preliminaries). I’m not sure I want to live through a second replacement! However, I won’t turn it down, either! Hugs to both of you. π

Sorry I’m only now dropping in to read your news, and I hope the new battery fitting went well. I’m glad that through all the vicisitudes, we have kept faith. Since 2016…. Hmmm….. me too. I almost feel as if life is moving in seven-year cycles. This here year now being the start of a new seven year cycle, hopefully better and more personally rewarding. Now, wouldn’t that be lovely…?
Bless you! Xxx

I love getting serial notes from you, Fran! Thanks for your kind comments. I still have a way to go before I can zip through the day without weariness, unscheduled falling asleep, and some after-pain. I wonder what it takes to keep a patient tied down in an operating room? Not sure I want to know, to tell you the absolute truth! π I like the idea of seven-year cycles. The kind that spiral up, not down! π
