The following words and images came to me recently while listening to Gustav Holst’s Brook Green Suite. He wrote it from his hospitable bed a year before he died in 1934. Read the rest of this entry »

Just before sunrise today, backdropped by a blue sky, I  watched a 15-minute show from my bedroom window. A chaotic wind sent small snowflakes twisting and turning through the air. Running back and forth as though they couldn’t make up their minds which way to go.

Right now the sky is blue, the sun is up, the stiff wind has shifted to the west, powder snow is resting on the ground and we have a chill factor in the single digits. A good day to stay inside with a hot cup of tea.

Shades of Swollen Rhetoric

Augustine-Truth

I live in Truth

Not in photo-shopped Shades of Vicarious Color
I am what I am.

I tell the Truth
Not in misleading Shades of Precarious Ambiguities
You know I’m right.

I walk in Light
Not in dastardly Shades of Nefarious Warmongers
I’m on your side.

Trust me.

I couldn’t decide whether these were miniature Chinese lanterns or fairy lanterns. The fairies won out. They take me back to California and my indoor hanging baskets of fuchsias. Magenta is still my favorite color.

Of all my indoor plants, they were the most spectacular. They’re delicate, magical and super easy to grow. I saw these at Longwood Gardens in the Conservatory, where I’d like to be right now. Though the snow outside my window is pretty spectacular.

Happy Monday!

She was about 10 or 11 years old,
quiet and a bit hesitant.
Though we’d never met, we shared a past.
Not together, but separately.

I’d just told the story about my childhood
to a group of adults and children.
She cried during part of it,
leaned  over and said something to her mother. Read the rest of this entry »
