wear light blue-gray and deep brown
sand-polished by waves
rocks along the edge
bear chalky white droppings from
seabirds passing by
enduring beauty
created by stormy seas
and heaving earthquakes

Amy Carmichael wrote this delightful poem for children whose lives and wellbeing were at risk. Amy’s major life work was to rescue or receive these children and offer them an alternative.
