A serious consultation on Grandpa’s wheat ranch in Oregon, Summer 1973

I’m almost embarrassed to admit this. Poring through old photos of our young children evokes feelings similar to my feelings when they were born. Read the rest of this entry »

~~~My favorite! A Longwood Meadow bird house hat in late autumn finery.
Is Longwood Gardens addictive? Maybe. No matter. It’s a healthy addiction! Especially on a chilly, breezy, bright sunny day that just happened to be my birthday. Here’s a tiny peek at what we saw Read the rest of this entry »
About Ice Storms and Me
Australia King Parrot and DAF, P1100727
Truth: God didn’t forget or forsake me. Even if no one had stopped by my house after the ice storm, I would still believe that.
My dear Sir | To an Old Soul
To Rev. George MacDonald
My dear Sir,
Whilst traveling in the high desert of Oregon
Akin to yet unlike your Scottish highlands,
Yesterday D and I went for a forest walk with family members. The weather was perfect: cool, not cold; drizzly, not raining; overcast, not stormy–with sun breaking through during the last bit of our hike. Lots of downhill and uphill climbing on a marked trail.
It’s mushroom season! Read the rest of this entry »
Carrot and Lentil Soup Recipe | By Request
Carrot and Lentil Soup, photo by Sarah_Jayne, picHXyFzM
Here’s the yummy lentil soup I made yesterday. It smells and tastes like the lentil soups I had on our trip. I doubled the recipe–and changed spice amounts as noted below. Add water or broth as needed to keep it from going mushy and stiff. I used a combination of broth and water. Haven’t frozen any yet, but intend to. I’m also thinking about multiple variations on the theme. Read the rest of this entry »
Farewell, Scotland! | Dear Readers
Edinburgh Castle, high above the City
I can’t believe we did it! D and I left Smudge with our son’s family, flew out of Philadelphia on September 1, and spent nearly 2 ½ weeks in Scotland celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. One of our great adventures together. Read the rest of this entry »
