salty tide
by Elouise
salty tide
laps against dock
marsh hen clacks
It’s nineteen-fifty-something
I’m sitting on the dock
Watching the tide ebb and flow
Listening to Savannah River silence
Gulls call in the distance
Floating docks creak
Water drifts across shiny gooey mud
Plump marsh chicks balance
on tips of swaying marsh grass
Peaceful, alone,
I’m aware of something bigger than I
Teeming with life seen and unseen

Lovely and eloquent poem! Nature gives us so much spiritual nourishment, makes us so much aware of the “something bigger than I.”
Thank you so much for sharing.

Nancy,
I can’t believe I never replied to your kind comment! You’ve been a great encouragement this past year. Thanks so much. Thanks, also, for your comment about nature. It’s a wonderful spiritual connection if we have eyes to see and ears to hear!
Blessings in this new year.
Elouise
